What is Hybrid?
A hybrid boat, similar to hybrid cars, combines two or more different power sources to propel the vessel. The primary goal is typically to improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and provide greater flexibility in power sources. There are different types of hybrid propulsion systems for boats, and the choice often depends on the specific application and intended use. Here are a few types of hybrid boat propulsion:
-
Series Hybrid:
In a series hybrid, only the electric motor drives the propeller, and the internal combustion engine acts as a generator to produce electricity to recharge the battery or directly power the electric motor.
-
Parallel Hybrid:
In a parallel hybrid, both the internal combustion engine and the electric motor are connected to the transmission and can directly power the propeller either individually or simultaneously.
